Battery Park City
Battery
Park City is an urban oasis at the tip of Manhattan. There are tree-lined
streets, a yacht basin, and a 1.2 mile-long esplanade along the Hudson
River.
Currently there are eleven condominium and eight rental buildings, including nearly two thousand recent apartments that have been or will be built. Local amenities include two supermarkets, several cleaners, a pharmacy, liquor store, hair salon, and deli.
Steamer's Landing and Wave and the upscale Hudson River Club are among the numerous restaurants within walking distance.
The Winter Garden hosts a wide array of free entertainment including orchestras, jazz bands, circus troupes, and dancers. A welcome addition to Battery Park City is the recent opening of an Embassy Suites hotel complex, featuring a sixteen-screen multiplex cinema with stadium seating.
Nearby Stuyvesant High School, one of the city's best educational institutions, is highly competitive with a selective admission policy based on an entrance exam.
South of Battery Park City is Battery Park, which is the departure point
for the Staten Island Ferry and tourists traveling to the Statue of Liberty
and Ellis Island.
